Cover work for 25 June 2014 LPD lesson (Period 2 - after assembly)

1. Fill in the questionnaire (you will receive an email / a link from the student's gmail) about what you've learned in LPD throughout this year (especially the Mind Up lessons)
2. Type a letter or give suggestions for the existing Y5 students who are going into year 6 about your first year's MYP life, and what should they expect and how they prepare better for the MYP.
Email you letter to Ms Yeung once you've finished it.

11 June, 2014 (Due 17 June)

Today we miss the LPD lesson due to the special programme prepared by the ILN department (Ms Leung)
1. Write an reflection about the Act of Kindness you've done to your classmate, and the feeling about some Act of Kindness your classmate have done to you within the last few week (since before the SAW till now).
Guess "who" do something good for you, if you think he/she deserve, buy him/her a small present and say thank you to them (in our next LPD lesson - 18 June)

22 May, 2014 (Due 3 June)

While you are busy preparing your SAW, don't forget to do a little "Act of kindness" to your special one. At the same time, keep expressing gratitude.

14 May, 2014 (Due 21 April)

1. Keep recording at least 1 "expression of gratitude/ one thing you are thankful for" in your LPD journal each day for a week
2. glue the task you've chosen from the LPD lesson, read the instructions and finish the task.

16 April, 2014 (Due 28 April)

1. Finish the worksheet given in today's LPD lesson
(Think of 1 problem you are facing recently, provide three thoughts/ solutions
optimistic, pessimistic and unrealistic)

9 April, 2014 (Due Friday)

LPD journal entries:
1. Read the given story (The reason for seasons - Ancient Greek Myths for Kids)
2. Stick the worksheet (Character Perspectives) onto your LPD journal and finish the worksheet (as what we've done in class with your group's story).

2. Journal reflection entry for mindful movement 2:
The results of the "the mindful movement relay race":

a. according to the above results, and your own groups performance, write a discussion about the followings:
-What was the best strategy for holding the soon steady?
-How did you keep it stable in your hand?
-What did you leaner about mindful balance from this activity?
-Why do you think your group has win/ loss?
-Why strategies you/your group have used/ what strategies you/your group should apply next time to win/improve?

Some of you still haven't handed in the blue book (LPD Journal), the library worksheet 1 and 2, make sure you all handed in tomorrow.

5 March, 2014 (Since some of the activity need to take record for a week, the LPD journal is due by next Wednesday 12/3)

1. Glue your library worksheet (evaluating the website) in your LPD lesson, if you still have't done so within the lesson.
2. Answer the following questions, if you still haven't done so within the lesson
MINDFUL MOVEMENT 1
a. What is mindful movement?
b. Why do we need to practice mindful movement?
c. How is mindful movement link to the brain?
d. What is Cortisol? What is the function of Cortisol?
e. True or False:
i) the body's blood vessels are 60,000 miles long - more than long enough to circle the globe twice!
ii) It only takes 20 seconds for blood to circulate through the entire vascular system.
iii) The heart beats about 100,000 times a day.
f. How do you measure your heartbeat? (suggest 3 methods)
We have already discussed the answer in the lesson, if you missed it, you might find the answer from the internet or discuss with your group members.
3. Choose one of the following activity / reflection/ journal writing to finish in your LPD journey.
a. Keep an exercise diary for a week. Write down how you feel before and after you do exercise of any kind. Summarize your results.
b. Diagram the signals you get from your body when you raise your pulse through some kind of movement. Draw an outline of your body, with callouts to label the changes it goes through.
c. Suggests ways you might use to slow down your heartbeat after exercise. How will it benefit your brain or learning?

I've only get 2 LPD homework book from the whole class before the Project Week and Chinese New Year break.
I've emailed to all students and parents about this issue (on 8th Feb), and it will affect me to give an accurate effort for LPD in the report card.
I've mentioned this issue to the whole class and remind them to hand in the blue book (LPD Journal) before the end of tomorrow's homeroom time (8:40pm).
At this moment, 6 of the students are having unsatisfactory effort since in my record they are not doing well at all in the first 3 MIND UP tasks.

1. Report of the "Mindful tasting" activity
a. Title of the activity
b. Material needed
c. Procedure (what have I done)
d. Observation and conclusion (what did I notice, how did I feel, anything I can conclude and learn from this activity.
2. Choose one (either a or b) of the following to do are extension work
a. Make a menu for a meal that you would enjoy eating mindfully. Include any beverages, and dessert. Describe the flavors and textures that would make this meal worth savoring.
b. Write a poem that contains the four main flavours: sweet, bitter, sour and salty.
You can use the flavors to describe foods, or as metaphors to describe emotions, an experience you have had, or anything else you wish.

For lesson 3 please download the powerpoint, revise what you've learned, do the "Once a Day" and pick 1 task to finish as journal writing (the blue book will be returned to you on Friday. This task will be due on next Tuesday 15 Oct.

2. Download the PowerPoint of Mind UP lesson 1&2 to review what we've done and watch the video again

3. Follow the instructions in slides 14, 15 and 25, 26; choose 1 task for each lesson to work on (together 2 tasks).
Hand in your completed work in the LPD journal next Monday (in your Maths lesson).
